So, I was pretty sure I put this up yesterday, but I was in a flu/crappy weather induced fog and may have been imagining it. I’m not gonna treat you with one of my staple pre-news rants today, so let’s jump right in… If you pay any attention to the world of gaming then you know that this week is the annual Game Developers Conference in San Francisco. As with every major gaming conference, my invitation and press passes were...

So, I had some friends come up a couple weeks ago for a bachelor party and one of the things we did was go to a Hawks game. After showing up like halfway through the second quarter due to poor planning, we kinda started to enjoy ourselves. That is, until the ridiculously obnoxious pack of 10 year old hyenas two rows down became almost unbearable. Ugh. I mean, is there anything more annoying than a group of 10-12 year old boys? I really don’t...

Just so you know, it’s totally blizzarding outside. Okay, maybe it’s not so much blizzarding but it’s definitely snowing. A lot. Of course, working where I work we are still open and I am sitting at my desk doing nothing, which I’ve been doing all day. I don’t even know why we are open. It’s like the powers that be have some sort of aversion to closing the office for weather related reasons. …  Read More →

Lost is back people!! Yes, I’m like two days late on this, but OMFG!!! The show is way too good! How can a show that leaves you completely flabbergasted before every commercial break be so damned good? If you allow me to invoke Aziz Ansari, “WWWWHHHHHHAAAAATTT!!!!” It’s probably the best show on network television, and gives True Blood and Dexter a run for their …  Read More →

Today, it’s time for something completely different. If you journey way back to late 2006, you’ll recollect the frenzy that was the launch of the Wii & PS3, and the unofficial beginning of the next-gen wars. During those early days, everyone with a voice to be heard on the internet bombarded consumers with what they thought were the essential items that should be paired with your new console purchase. As you all know, we do...

There haven’t been too many days since our time together here at The Spin that I’ve actually felt sad, but today is one of those days. If you haven’t heard by now, J.D. Salinger has passed away at the age of 91. Salinger is most well known for his classic, “The Catcher In The Rye”. I know how cliche this sounds, but that was one of the books that truly changed my life. That, along with “On The Road” by...

I have played No More Heroes 2 and it is glorious. It is beyond glorious, it is stupidly awesome. With the risk of sounding politically incorrect, and to paraphrase Roxanne Shante, “Desperate Struggle” gets retarded. I don’t want to spoil anything for anyone, but allow me to drop a little science about the opening scene of Suda 51’s magnum opus….(Side note: I really don’t …  Read More →

I think my TV is breaking, or has already broke. It won’t turn on no matter how much I press the power button. Before you ask, yes, I have gotten up and tried to physically turn it on. I think we’re gonna need something like power-supply-transistor-thingy, or something stupidly technical like that. My initial thought is …  Read More →

There’s only two days left in 2009. Is there even any need for me to attempt putting the ridiculousness of that statement into words? I suppose I could trump it by saying not only are there two days left in ‘09, but two days left in the first decade of the 21st century. If I were the type to get all emo, I’d point out that this is also probably the last couple days of the first decade of the last century any of us will ever see....

Now, now my little babies, do not let the title of this post cause you distress. I promise I’m going to try to make this as enjoyable as possible. Approximately 24 hours ago I informed you all that today was going to be dedicated to the worst games of 2009. I’ve been debating how I should do this post. It’s kind of like a band-aid or a scab, should I just rip it off or slowly pick at it? You know what’s weird about that...

Out of the handful of mainstream media outlets that handle video games in a capacity beyond when controversy strikes or the occasional blockbuster ’s release, Slate.com’s “Game Club” annually gets together for a critical discussion on the year in games. This year’s crew includes Chris Suellentrop, Leigh Alexander, Mitch Krpata and Jamin Brophy-Warren, and covers everything from the beauty and simplicity of Canabalt...

Okay, we’re going to make this short and sweet. Mainly because I’m about to start making a celebratory dinner. This dinner is to celebrate that I’m done with finals, and that means classes. I have this severe aversion to classes, it’s almost like an allergy, so for them to be done with for a bit is quite the relief. I still haven’t gotten my copy of The Price Is Right, and I do apologize. But, I promised …  Read More →

That’s right folks, it’s about to get all editorial up in this beast! Yours truly is in quite a good mood this Friday evening, and it’s a bit refreshing. I’ve got this much left in school work left for the semester, which is outfreakingstanding. (Side note: When I said “this much left” I was physically holding up my hands and fingers in that way we all do when we’re “this close” or we “missed...

Is it just me, or does it seem like the older you get, the more stressful things are near the holidays? Oh yes, we are deep into the holidays now, and things are getting real. Let’s imagine that one could toss the fact that finals are next week out the window, maybe it’s even possible to forget about the refrigerator that gets closer to dying each day, there’s still …  Read More →

So, today at my day job I got a nice little treat. This treat came in the form of an email that praised all of the firm’s staff for hard work and dedication. The powers that be who authored the letter talked about how in these times of sacrifice, it was because of the staff that the firm has persevered (that’s a toughy to spell, thank God for Mrs. Mike & spell check!)…  Read More →
